My first date
When I first started my new job, one of the bosses really caught my eye. Although he was a lot older then I am, and I doubted seriously he would ever be interested in a younger girl like me, I wondered what it would be like to go out with someone like him. I found it really nice that he was always looking at me, smiling, initiating small talk, and generally a very friendly and nice guy. A few days after I broke off my engagement, he commented that he had heard about the split, and was sorry things did not work out. I thought at the time it was a nice thing to say. I had heard he was married, so I did not really think anything about his comment.
A few weeks ago, we were chatting in the lunch room (he always seems to pop in when I’m there.) As our chat touched several subjects, I asked him how his “married life” was going. I was somewhat surprised when he told me he was in the middle of a divorce, and it was “going quite well, if those things can go well”.
When I mentioned this to my girl friend, she started laughing and wanted to know when our first date was! I laughed too, and told her I doubted seriously someone more then twenty years my age would ever “ask me out!”. So we made a bet. If Peter (that’s his name) ever did ask me out, I would blog about the dates, just for fun. Since Peter was never going to ask me out (oh my god, he is almost like fifty or something!), I did not worry about ever having to do any blogging.
On Tuesday, Peter hinted that since Friday we would be closing the office early, it might be a good idea for several of us to go out to lunch, “just for fun” he said. I told him I thought that would be a good idea, and agreed it would be fun. I was totally shocked when this morning he asked if I was still up for lunch after work today. I was speechless! Anyway, we ended up going to the Macaroni Grill, just the two of us and it was really interesting. I think he is interested in dating!
